ANNOUNCING A 5-DAY WORKSHOP IN THE JERSEY COUNTRYSIDE (June 17-21, 2011)
The Workshop: In this 5-day workshop you will build your our own hollow wooden surfboard to the ‘ready for glassing’ stage. We will begin by learning the basics of surfboard design and use this new knowledge to build and fine tune the style of surfboard that is best for your skill level, type of surfing, and/or conditions you intend to surf in. Students will select their board from my line of proven designs. You will then set about cutting the internal framework, selecting the planks for the top and bottom, gluing those planks to the framework, railing out the board using my patent-pending Strip & Feather technique, attaching the top panel and then finish the workshop by doing the shaping and sanding. You’ll leave the workshop with the board of your choice ready to be fiberglassed (I will provide additional advice on glassing, fin placement and shaping, and leashloop/vent installation).
The Venue: Peters Valley Craft Center is a national center for fine craft education where people’s lives are enriched through the exploration and execution of fine craft.
