Sliding Sustainably

Group members: 46

Description:

This group was started here on T2S as a means of exploring all aspects of sustainability as it relates to the surf industry in general.  As most builders here on T2S are woodworkers, the bulk of the discussions may be centered around, but certainly not limited to, lumber.

An example of equally important subjects that should be addressed here include glues, resins, laminating materials, and construction methods that are currently available and/or being explored.

This group will also be dedicated to showcasing the pioneering spirit of individuals and like-minded organizations (non-profit or otherwise) who embody and exemplify this spirit through their actions, and who are generous enough to share their knowledge with us.

Please feel free to join this group as an observer, a teacher, researcher, or reporter. In doing so, your contribution will strengthen the understanding of all involved in the movement towards a greener surf experience.

To see all of the available discussion topics or to start a new one, choose the 'Group Forum' option on the left hand side of the screen.

Wood Densities

More

Here's a list of some common wood densities. Those more often used for HWS building are highlighted for quick reference.  Keep in mind that the densities of different woods can vary quite a bit depending upon where and how fast they're grown, species, age, moisture percentage etc. This is just a rough guide to help aid in lumber selection.  Eventually, it would be nice to accumulate the tensile, compressive, shear, flex and other strength indicators.  That information is out there but needs to be gathered, so if you have a chance and want to update and reload the excel file here, feel free to do so.

Welcome to The Tree to Sea Network

Tree to Sea (t2s) is your point source for all things hollow, wooden, and surfboard. Here you'll find education, inspiration and if your not careful, an addiction for wood, water, and waves. This site is a social network (sort of like Facebook, but grassroots).
